...•The Ferbane Junior C Footballers captured the County Championship in style on Saturday 17th October last when they defeated a spirited Tubber team in Ballycumber. The win ended a drought for the Club who hadn’t won a County at any adult grade for 13 years. The Super "C s " led from the first ten minutes with early goals and were never in danger. Congratulations to all involved from their main sponsors.
...•Gary "Hurricane " Higgins takes to the skies in his Birr Oil sponsored Ford Escort Mark 2 at The Galway Summer Rally . Gary was the winner of class 10 at his years Galway Rally. Continued best wishes to Gary and his team.

...•Flaherty Fuel Free Draw for 2 to Old Trafford took place in Flaherty Fuel Oils depot in Ferbane at 4pm on Fri 3rd of July. The draw was witnessed by Garda Sgt Kevin Ganly. Also in attendance was Conor Flaherty and Brian Lowry (promoter). The winner of the draw is Anthony Slevin of Carrig, Birr, Co. Offaly.

...•Shane Lowry Irish Open Golf Champion visted Ferbane on Friday night 22nd May where hundreds were present to meet the young Clara man whose Father Brendan comes from the town and where many of his extended family live. At an open air reception he was presented with a Ferbane GAA Jersey by David and Conor Flaherty of Flaherty Fuel the main sponsors of the club. The back of the jersey had the number minus 17 on it to celebrate his tremendous score at Baltray the previous Sunday.
Flaherty Fuel take this opportunity to wish Shane every success as he embarks on his professional career.

...•There was 5 cent per litre added in excise duty to the price of road diesel in the budget on 7th April. The price of petrol, heating oils and agri-diesel was not affected.

...•Ballinasloe had a huge turnout for the St Patrick's Day Parade and Garbally Oil and Flaherty Fuel were there to join in the celebrations. With the sun shining and everyone in the festive spirit. The Local Oil Company were looking their best as their fleet of trucks weaved through the packed streets of the town.

...•Oil prices fall to 4 year lows as the econmic recession takes hold. Demand for oil worldwide has decreased so much that even when OPEC at their December meeting cut output by 2.2 million barrels per day the price of oil continued to fall. This has resulted in significant price reductions at the pumps for motorists with petrol and diesel falling below the 1 euro per litre mark and heading nearer to 90 cent per litre. Home Heating oil has fallen accordingly also with it costing almost half of what it cost last July.

...•On Thursday 20th Nov Birr Oil Company featured on RTE's LIVELINE. Birr Oil company became the first Service station in the country to drop their prices for petrol and diesel below 1 euro per litre for over 3 years. Joe Duffy interviewed David Flaherty on air after a customer had phoned the show to tell them the prices in Birr. David confirmed to Joe that indeed The Flaherty Group had reduced their prices at all 3 of their sites to 99.9 cent per litre in BIRR OIL, GARBALLY OIL in BALLINASLOE and FLAHERTY FUELS in FERBANE. Joe commented that Birr Oil were playing their part in OFFALY to help beat the recession.
On Friday 21/11/2008 the IRISH INDEPENDENT and DAILY STAR ran interviews with Conor and David flaherty respectively re their low fuel prices follwing the show.

...•Liam McGill, Grand Nephew of Brendan Flaherty is a son of Hazel who is a daughter of Billy and Mary Flaherty, Billy being a brother of Brendan. Billy and Mary moved from Ireland to Birmingham in the 1950s. Billy Flaherty was involved with Ferbane GAA CLUB prior to moving to UK. Another brother of Brendans and Billys , Mick Flaherty RIP played Senior football for Warwickshire in the 1960s and played for Ferbane before his departure. The Flaherty, Ferbane, Warwickshire connection continues with Liam proudly wearing the Ferbane jersey to training sessions with his club John Mitchells and now with Warwickshire County.

...•The Flaherty family were delighted to welcome Ballinasloe's Keith Kelly (Galway All Ireland Minor Football Winner) to Ferbane on Friday 6th of June. Keith proudly displayed the Tom Markham Cup in Gleesons Bar on a terrific night with music supplied by local musicians. Locals enjoyed being photographed with Keith and the cup which comes as no suprised as Keith's proud dad Patrick hails from Cynocs Terrace, Ferbane. Patrick along with Keith's uncles Denis and John played on the all conquering Ferbane Football teams of the late eighties to early nineties. The Flaherty family wish Keith the very best in his future sporting career.
